Scientific Illustrations

Graphical Abstract - Cancer research (Oncology)
My work on this graphical abstract follows a two principle concept. Combining a powerful visual story telling element with scientific pathways and more detailed infographics. A pleasing color palette allowing for highlighting essential parts and focusing on the key message of the project.

Graphical Abstract - Example (finished illustration after publication)
This scientific project was focused on measuring protein levels in different tissues of the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. I used an everyday object combined with scientific drawings as a focus point of the illustration. This makes it possible for the viewer to grasp the key message at one glance. For easier orientation I used a pleasant color pallet and simple icons.

Graphical Abstract - Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
My work on this graphical abstract follows a two principle concept. Combining a powerful visual story telling element with scientific pathways and more detailed infographics. Highlighting a new method development. I used the idea of surfing a wave to illustrate the fluid this assay uses and hinted at a familiar theme surfing to make it easier to understand for people not working in the field. For a joyful touch the antibody used in the method is surfing on a magnetic bead illustrating the concept of immunoprecipitation.

Graphical Illustration- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
A similar illustration for the same project as the abstract above. This time as a eye catcher on a scientific poster. Scientific posters need to stand out in order to catch the attention of passing by audience during poster session at conferences. An easy to see graphic which contains something relatable is a key element for this.

Logos as branding element are used everywhere in daily life to enhance recognizability, visibility and credibility. A concept that is true for literally every product, service or company in our modern world is as applicably to science.
Having a logo for your research group makes science communication easier and can be a powerful tool in securing research grants and funding.
ALS is a devastating disease and has a fundamental impact on not only the patients lives but also thier relatives, next of kin, friends and caregivers. It effects everyone involved and researchers are continually working to improve patients life and outcome. This logo is representing these efforts as well as the people and faces behind the disease in and outside of the clinic and laboratory setting.
